About Me

Hello! I’m Julie, a French native writing in English, currently finishing a PhD in Creative Writing at Cardiff University, in Wales. Why do I write in English? I’ve tried to answer this question here.

I write prose most often, but also poetry. My PhD project is a historical novel set in 1940s Italy (if you’re interested, you can read about it in more detail here). Most of my writing seeks to explore the complexities of human relationships – romantic, platonic, and familial connections.

I also have a background in literary translation, having taken several university modules that focused on translation (from English to French, and from French to English). I love languages, their grammar and sounds, the way they are articulated; for my PhD, I have had to oil the cogs of my high school Italian, slowly re-learning to work its mechanisms.

My eye for detail and attention to language also make me a skilful proofreader. I have edited academic and creative work, and have worked on several occasions as an editor and a proofreader. If this is something that interests you, I recommend heading here.
